Estriol for Vaginal Dryness and Thinning
| Vaginal dryness
often occurs
during menopause because your body is making less estrogen. Lower
estrogen
levels reduce vaginal lubrication and cause the tissues in and around
the
vagina to become thinner and less elastic. As a result, many women
experience
dryness, burning, and itching. Discomfort during sexual intercourse can
also become a problem.
Unlike other menopausal symptoms that tend to diminish once the transition through menopause is complete, vaginal dryness does not go away over time on its own. In fact, left untreated, it can actually worsen over time. Proper treatment can actually reverse vaginal thinning and irritation. Low levels of estrogen in the body are the cause of vaginal dryness at menopause. Using a vaginal Estrogen restores some of the estrogen lost at menopause and can do more than just offer short-term symptom relief. Using estrogen vaginally can actually reverse vaginal thinning and dryness and restore healthy tissue, and can help maintain this reversal with continued use. An Estrogen vaginal cream is different from over-the-counter lubricants and moisturizers, such as Replens® or K-Y® Jelly. While these products may offer temporary relief from vaginal dryness, using estriol addresses vaginal discomfort at its source — actually treating the estrogen loss that causes this common menopausal symptom. So it does more than temporarily improve symptoms — it may actually restore your vagina's elasticity and lubrication with continued use. When used as directed for treating vaginal dryness, Estrogen can provide relief. According to most authorities, the safest form of estrogen is Estriol. Please read
