Bio Beta 1,3 1,6 Glucan Creme
From Shaitake and Maitake Mushroom

Beta 1,3 1,6 glucan. What is it?

Beta glucans are polysaccharides (sugar molecules) found bound together as a sugar/protein complex. The richest concentrated source of beta glucan is baker's yeast cell walls, but it is also present in lesser amounts in barley, oats, and some seaweeds, mushrooms, and other plants. Beta glucan extract taken from these natural materials does not contain the protein part of the complex, so it is not allergy inducing. Hundreds of scientific reports attest to beta glucan’s ability to enhance the immune system. Having demonstrated widespread immune enhancing effects, beta glucan has been used to improve conditions ranging from gingivitis and periodontitis to cancer.

How Glucans Work
Glucans appear to stimulate (irritate) the large white blood cells called macrophages into action. These cells are a primary defense system for our bodies, identifying abnormal conditions and activating the appropriate therapeutic response. They literally devour bacteria, foreign cells, dead and dying cells, mutated cells, cancerous cells, and other negative invaders. Beta glucan’s stimulation of macrophage cells produces a cascade of immune events, boosting immune response, stimulating the production of immune cells and improving host resistance.

How Beta Glucans Protect Skin
The skin contains macrophages and other antigen presenting cells (dendritic cells, Langerhans cells).  Researchers have found that some of these cells have receptor sites ready to accept beta-1,3 glucan, which can increase non-specific immunity against bacteria, fungi and other insults.  The skin is constantly under assault by environmental pollutants, harsh chemicals, detergents, perfumes, UV radiation and small wounds.  These assaults provide increased access to pathogens.  An increased efficiency in the innate immune system by beta-glucan should help the skin heal itself, and reduce signs of skin damage. A recent study supports the use of beta-glucan in the care of healthy skin and treatment of the signs of aging.

Beta Glucan and Acne
It's immune boosting, wound healing powers, also makes beta glucan helpful for use with acne skin care products. Macrophages activated by beta glucan may be charged and more efficient in seeking out and destroying the cell debris, pus, and bacteria that accumulate in inflamed acne lesions. They may also be better able to help protect irritated skin from UV rays and other environmental damage, encourage new skin formation, decrease scarring, and keep the skin hydrated.

Skin Enhancing Beauty Creme
(Formerly Collagen Renewing Facial Creme)
With Collagen Enhancing Hormones
Designed to stimulate collagen growth in the skin for smoother, younger looking skin.

Collagen:
Collagen is an integral part of the skin’s fabric. It forms a mesh-like structure that helps to support new cells as they grow while providing needed flexibility. There is more collagen in the skin than any other protein, however there are factors that cause it to become depleted, allowing wrinkles to appear.

Collagen’s significance in maintaining healthy skin has been known for decades. Women have long gone to dermatologists to have collagen injected under their skin. This treatment, first performed in 1982, augments the skin’s natural network of collagen in areas where it has become depleted, immediately removing fine lines and wrinkles, and temporarily restoring a smoother, softer, and more youthful appearance to their skin.   There is no question that these injections are effective. As with natural collagen, however, the injected supply diminishes, so continued treatments are required. This entails substantial financial expenditures that over time can easily add up to thousands of dollars. There is also the pain associated with the injections after the anesthetic wears off. And, of course, most people do not want to be pricked with needles, especially around their eyes, or be inconvenienced by a dermatologist’s waiting room.

As news about the success of collagen injections spread, many cosmetics companies rushed to take advantage of the commercial opportunity. They introduced collagen creams and advertised that their creams could produce anti-aging effects similar to those of injections. Regrettably, collagen molecules are too large to pass through the upper layer of the skin, so the only benefit of the creams was to moisturize the surface of the skin, leaving unchanged the fundamental issue of declining collagen levels in the underlying layers. The regular use of vitamin C-fortified creams facilitates collagen synthesis beneath the skin, but the age-related degradation of collagen can overwhelm the ability of vitamin C to generate new collagen.

How is our Collagen Renewing Facial Creme different?
Rather than trying to supply collagen to the skin topically, this creme is designed to stimulate the natural growth of collagen with the use of a bioidentical hormone estriol/progesterone complex, in a strength that has  minimal effect on hormone balance*. Along with this, other ingredients, such as Vitamin C, Alpha Lipoic Acid and DMAE are added for their ability to facilitate collagen synthesis.

How does  hormone loss effect the skin?
The drop in estrogen production makes your skin thinner and less elastic which produces more wrinkling and sagging. Your skin is producing less collagen and elastin, the supportive and elastic proteins in the skin.  Again, estrogen replacement therapy works to maintain more adequate production of collagen and elastin.  A 1997 study of 3,875 postmenopausal women concluded that estrogen helped aging women have a younger looking skin, helped maintain skin’s collagen,  thickness, elasticity and ability to retain moisture. The study found that the chances of having dry and wrinkled skin were 30 percent  less in women who took estrogen replacements in comparison with women who did not. While smoking and sun exposure may adversely affect skin health, the researchers adjusted for these two factors, and found the  benefits of estrogen on skin health were still significant. The study, led by Dr. Laura B. Dunn of the University of California at San Francisco, was published in the Archives of Dermatology (1997;133:339-342).

In recent years, the dangers of synthetic hormones has resulted in women seeking safer methods of supplementing hormone levels. The subject of Bioidentical Hormones has been of great interest as it offers women a very effective alternative to dangerous HRT.
Our Collagen RenewIng Facial Creme is one of the innovative products offered to women to enhance their efforts to maintain a youthful appearance as they age.
